Why this schedule — strength of schedule
The format. Ten companies, six rounds, one map each (best-of-one). It's a partial round-robin — each team plays six of the other nine, never the same opponent twice.
How the six opponents are chosen. A careless draw can hand one team a murderers' row while another cruises, which would distort the standings. To prevent that we score each team's slate by its strength of schedule — the sum of its six opponents' seed numbers — and pick the set of pairings that makes that number as equal as possible across all ten teams. On the locked schedule every team's slate lands near the fair average (about 33 on the 1–10 seed scale), and the spread between the easiest and hardest slate is roughly a third of what a naive seed-fold produces (variance ≈ 6.6 vs ≈ 19). No one runs a gauntlet; no one coasts.
Two rules baked in. No rematches, and the top four seeds never meet before Round 4 — so the marquee games land late and no contender's standing is settled by a brutal early draw. The upshot: Sunday's seeding reflects how teams actually played, not who they drew.
How standings are decided
Companies are ranked by, in order:
- Record — wins first.
- Head-to-head — among teams tied on record, whoever won the meeting ranks higher.
- Buchholz — the sum of your opponents' win totals. A high Buchholz means the teams you faced did well themselves — i.e. you came through a tougher field — so ties break in favor of the harder road. (It's the classic Swiss-chess tiebreaker.)
- Round / flag differential — capped, so a blowout doesn't snowball.
- Group seed — the pre-event captains'-ballot seed, as the final fallback.
Seeds 1–6 bye straight to Sunday's Quarterfinals; seeds 7–10 open in the play-in. Final standing for everyone is played out in the consolation bracket.
